Healthful Ionized Air

We have been line-drying our clothes for over 20 years. So, when we opened the B&B, drying our guest’s sheets on the line was a no brain-er. Who would of thought our guests would notice and comment on the fresh scent of their sheets.
Not to sound like a sound bite–The clean/dry and naturally ionized air gives the sheets a fresh scent–a testament as to why people came to Estes in the late 1800’s to cure themselves of consumption (tuberculosis). Click for more info on the health benefits of ionized air.

Tast of Estes

Each year the locals in Estes Park wait with baited breath for the feast that’s sponsored by generous restaurants in town.

We gather, we chat, we laugh, we look for one another, and we FEAST! The Quota Club has been organizing this benefit for 24 years.

Husband and innkeeper, Eric (George)

Eric the innkeeper. We ate like royalty, boasted about being the first in line ( FOUR years running) took home what we can’t finish (no wasted food) and, took home dessert for our morning tea. It’s is then that we reminisce about seeing old friends and talk about the new friends we made…and the weight we must now work off.

Vitamins and Minerals

Today I helped friends out at their vitamin shop, Leffler’s Vitamin Shoppe. Bill and Julie took a trip into Denver while I sold vitamins, minerals and herbs to health conscientious folk. I had such a good time. Vitamins and minerals is a fascinating topic of mine. Besides talking health I also watched snow fall from their store front window.

This photo was taken last month after a small sprinkling of weather.

Anyway, I was talking about vitamins and minerals. My health took an about face two years ago when I put myself on a vitamin regiment. My life style change occurred after I read the book I have posted on the home page of this blog. I also read John R. Lee’s other books. More energy, stable moods and, weight lose are a few of the advantages to my new habits.

I hope you are enjoying our new blog. We have a lot more to add to it, however, we are taking suggestions and encouragement from everyone. Please feel free to post ideas.

Elk with attitude

Shorts-weather in Estes Park today. Here are a few pre-dusk photos I snapped of two furry boys picnicking in my yard. I used my 500 foot sports lens which enabled me to shoot from a distance. BUT, still, I get ATTITUDE!

Keep watching him…he gets sassy.

Here he goes with a tongue lashing for me. I’m standing about 100 feet away.

Mountain Wild Flower

Spectacular day in the 60s. I spent Tooo much time in the office, on the phone, and on the computer. HOWEVER, a few hours outside with my Canon EOS 5D and I found paradise!

Today’s Find: An old rusty treasure I’ll use to plant basil in this summer after I’ve lined the box with clear plastic. Last year I used the basil as a green/silvery accent in my flower garden. The hungry elk do not like herbs. Basil is wonderful in cream cheese and eggs.

An afternoon at Lake Estes

Temperatures were in the mid 50s here in Estes Park! So, we packed up Maggie and spent the afternoon playing at Lake Estes.  Several geese were bathing and snacking on ground-stuff.

Baby Elk and Mountain Chickadee

Today Estes Park was bathed in bright sun rays and the sound of songbirds. By noon I’d hung out my favorite bird feeder and prepared my camera for action. It took minutes for word and song to spread among fowl and beast–food was to be had at the Frawley’s.

If you see the perfect picture in your lens you’ve missed the perfect shot. So I placed my eye in my camera’s eye cup and commenced working my shutter. I snapped away blindly as pretty birds dove and dashed around the feeder. I was in the house five minutes when Eric waived me to the window to witness the last of the seed being eaten by this baby elk.

A trip to Birch Knowls Ruins

This afternoon Eric and I went to the Birch Knoll ruins which overlooks downtown Estes Park. After shooting a few photos we had a car picnic and enjoyed the views. The first photo was taken from inside the ruins ( B&B sits among the trees–beyond the brown building). Second photo was taken from MacGregor Ave. Click the photo for history and information.

April 10th a little snow and sunshine

We woke up to snow. It’s just a light dusting of two inches.

It made for a gorgeous walk and magical photo op for the aspen trees. I took the photos while Eric brewed our morning tea, and watched from the window. Maggie followed me out side and watched from far off.

Firewood for next winter

April 7, 2008 we had our firewood delivered early this year for a discount. Bustamante Firewood is the best hardwood we can find at a good rate. Abe’s been selling us his wood since 1993. Our guest love the warmth and glow of the fires. His number is 303/652-3394
